Having a vanity table (or in a pinch, the kitchen table with a decent makeup mirror) makes the world of difference, too. If I have to do eyeshadow standing at the bathroom sink, I keep it very simple - it's harder to see properly, and it's not easy to do your eye makeup standing up trying to lean towards the mirror.
