Anything good on Netflix???

Post by karen » Sat Jan 29, 2011 9:30 pm

We stream a lot of Netflix at our house..and I'm sorta board with our cue- and desperate for comedies. They seem to have no lack of dramas, foreign films, and documentaries, but their comedy selection seems a bit scant. Am I missing something? Is anyone watching anything interesting???

Sorry Karen, I haven't really found any good comedies on the streaming side. We usually get the DVD's for newer comedies. We recently watched Knight and Day and Monsters vs Aliens and thought they were pretty good. Especially Knight and Day.. I thought Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz made a good duo. Next up on the list is Dinner for Schmucks.... I love Steve Carell!

I've rediscovered the '80s. Tonight I watched Peggy Sue Got Married.

I'm not much for comedies, but maybe you'd like Party Down? It's a series some of my friends introduced me to about a catering company whose wait staff are trying to make it as actors, directors, etc. It requires a certain sense of humor. If you liked Arrested Development, it's worth watching one episode.

Oh, and Head Case! Oh my gosh, it is to die for. I love it. I'm sure it wouldn't be for everyone, but it features celebrities playing themselves as fictional clients of Dr. Goode, an emotionally-disturbed shrink in Hollywood.

Hi Karen....we watched *Dinner for Sshmucks* last week, and it was surprisingly not nearly as dumb as I thought it would be....actually it was kinda heartfelt.
Just saw *Red* last night and it was a hoot. Clever and kind of sweet. (Love Helen Mirren)
Oh, and if you have a perverse sense of humor you might enjoy *Dogma* It's my alltime fav movie!

Karen, have you ever seen the show "Rescue Me"? It's fantastic and you can stream all of the seasons from the beginning!

Not for streaming (boooo!), but have you seen Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead? Wicked funny, both of them.

For streaming:
Sweet and funny:
About a Boy
Notting Hill
Penelope
Shades of Ray
Groundhog Day
My Cousin Winnie

Odd humor:
Big Lebowski
Best in Show (and the other mockumentaries from that director)

That's all I can think of. Were you looking for more recent ones? Netflix doesn't really have new movies on streaming, unfortunately.

Yay!!!! Thank you so much for the suggestions. When I added Headcase it popped up a suggestion for the entire series of The State which was great sketch comedy from the early 90's. I watched a few of them, and it held up well. I'm excited about Rescue Me being available because the few episodes I caught were great.

We liked Knight and Day a lot- and The Other Guys is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time if you like buddy cop movies and Will Farrell. Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead were hilarious!!!!
