Organizing by kits/colors is a great idea! I am a makeup junkie and have a ton of makeup, so I use stackable plastic drawers, the normal Sterilite ones. I've never been able to fit my makeup into a makeup bag. I use three stacks of the medium-ish ones (I think they're about a foot wide) on a white cube-divided shelf and devote a drawer to each type of item - brushes in the top drawer and separated into two desk organizer things, one for eye brushes and one for face; blushes in one drawer, etc. All my SN shadows go in one drawer (although they're quickly outgrowing that drawer!). I have another stack of two on my dresser for all lippies.

I use plastic drawers, from Target I think. But lately I just love the way the clear acrylic makeup organizers look. I really want to get some Muji ones, but don't want to spend the $.
