eyeshadows for a very fair or light skin

Post by Nina » Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:10 am

Well, I don't know if there already is a similar thread, but if there isn't, the title says it all. A very nice color often happens to be too dark for a fair skin. And I assume that it might also have something to do with the undertones of your skin, for mine which is rather cool-toned, many gold/orange/pink/copper colors which are supposed to go well with blue eyes make mine pop, but in a bad way! Brown makes me look sick. Silver or gray, however, is great.
As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to know if you have any opinion about the suitability of Vineyard, Idolize, Cashmere, Taupetastic, Luxe: I'm not really worried about Idolize, it must be a kind of silver, however I've never tried a purple (vineyard) and for the other 3 ones I'm looking for a nude look but that would brighten and darken a little my lids, and since I seldom wear e/s, I'd even be delighted with a single suggestion for that use!
Many thanks in advance!

Luxe may be more in the coppery range than you would like. Also, I am concerned that Taupetastic and Idolize would be too dark. The last two would be great for liners and crease color if you had your heart set on them. I really recomment sticking in the highlights and one color washes range.

Silvers and grays....Brimstone, Haze, and Rizzo would all be lovely. Not sure you need to start with them all. Vinyard would work well for you, too, but I am not sure I would want to go much darker. Wink Wink would probably work. It is a warm gray. Cashmere is a brown with a touch of rose and would work, too. I think the lighter colors in the Smokey Plum quad would suit you well, too. Chiffon, Taffeta, and Satin are purples on the coolish side, where Vinyard is slightly pinker.

I'd give my strongest recommendation on Idolize eyeshadow - I've got milk-white skin, blue eyes and slightly yellow undertones (but mistakenly, I wore pink base for years). Idolize is magnificent both on it's own and teamed up with other colours. It is a chameleon - on it's own, it's an exquisitely crafted colour, but pared up with others, it transforms to bring out the best in other colours. i guess this is because it's so well crafted in its colour composition.

Luxe - a good friend recently bought this and was very pleased how it looked against her green eyes. I'd imagine it'd be lovely against blue too.

Regardless what colours you choose, I'd like you to know that in the very short time since I discovered Silk Naturals, I have been more impressed with their quality (matched by their attention to detail and customer service, so rest assured there too) that with any other brand. The formula of the eyeshadows is unlike any other I've tried and is so comfortable to wear and long-lasting that that alone is worth a recommendation. However, the 'magic' is the way those innocent looking loose powders in the jar transform on *any* eye and look so elegant and flattering. You can wear them as a light veil or build them up to heavy coverage colour. The liner eyeshadows are dark, but the others I've tried are very easy to use lightly or heavily.

(and do yourself a favour and try the lippies, if you think the eyeshadow is good, then whooooo.... are you in for another treat! ;) )

I'm pale and pink too- Idolize really works- Luxe is a bit too warm for me- Cashmere works better, Vineyard, and Taupetastic are good too. I'm deeply in love with Soiree at the moment- it has a very neutral base with flecks shimmer. It's new to the site but it would be my top pick for you- it's just so pretty, and you can really wear it by itself, and look great- it is more of an evening type color, but I like to mix it up and wear it during the day too.

One more vote for Idolize, I wear it with Nymph and Gasp. I also wear Sandy pretty often, and opal and Vineyard. Bargain pink is beautiful too, and I'm pale, sliiiight yellow undertones, with blue/grey eyes. And I'm pretty sure I'm putting the purple quad in my shopping cart next time :)

I'm super pale, and very cool toned with blue eyes (My current ratio in SN Original foundation is 1 ebony to 18 white). I own Idolize and love it - it's my favourite of all the SN eyeshadows I've tried. It's kind of grey but so multi dimentional (it also has violet, blue and taupe tones) it doesn't look boring. I don't really like dark shadows either (I prefer a lighter natural look on my eyes so I can wear a red/pinky lip). As long as you don't pack Idolize on (I only apply a light amount) it shouldn't be too strong.

I also love Lurid eyeshdow (which I don't know if you own, if not I think it is worth trying). Although a brown/taupe (with a hint of purple), it is such a cool brown (with very strong cool grey tones) that I think it works great with blue eyes and on cool toned people. It is also less shimmery than Idolize if you want a more subtle look for the office (though it still has enough shimmer not to be flat). Again as long as you apply very lightly it shouldn't be too dark.

I don't own Taupetastic, Vineyard or Luxe (though I want to get Vineyard). Based on swatches Taupetastic looks a bit too close to Lurid for me to justify it to myself (although I do love Taupes!) and Luxe looks much too warm (copper) for me to wear. Like you yellows, oranges and warmer pinks make me look sickly. I do own Cashmere and on my lids it looks so copper (with a slight pink tone) that it can look a tiny bit warm. It does make my eyes stand out and I think I can get away with it (especially if I add a cooler colour in the crease) but if you have trouble with copper or pink tones on the eyes I would probably choose something else.

One of the other shadows I would suggest to you for a light lid wash is Bare. It is fairly light (too dark to use for highlight on super pale skin, but much lighter than Idolize or Lurid - no worries about being too dark on this one, I pack it on). I was pleasantly suprised to find it is a very neutral Gold - meaning it has enough beige and brown not to look yellow on cool toned skin. It looks very natural but is still just enough to make my blue eyes pop.

Thank you all for your quick answers! Ok, so now in my cart there are soiree, taupetastic and bare . And of course (hum) I'll try the lippies. But there are too many! My complexion is fair and a bit cool, at least a pink doll-like blush looks natural on me, and my lips have some color in it. My hair is really dark, and my eyes are grey-blue.
In my cart now there are Aria, Kiss and tell, Seedy, Fig leaf and Tender. What do you think? I don't wear "grown-up" lipsticks yet, so if fig leaf or seedy are dark (and if you know it...) tell me please! And after that I'll be a big girl and send my order and not come to cry for help any more!

With fair skin and dark hair you can get away with a lot of different lippies (pretty much everything matches white), but it really depends on your mood and what you're looking for.
Aria is good- it's a little more polished and "grown up", but it's not so super pigmented that it looks like a full-on lipstick. Tender is another good one. I like Seedy quite a bit- it's deep in the tube, but it's completely sheer. if you're worried about it being too dark, and like doll pink blush Damsel is probably a better choice at the moment. Fig Leaf is a great nude, but if you're leaning more towards girly pinks- wait a while. Gold Blush is one of my personal favorites, and it makes its way on to any recommendation list I do- it's just a really pretty color that looks good on pretty much everyone and I end up wearing quite a bit. The other one is Pout- I'd go with that one over Kiss N' Tell.
