Clear labels?

Post by pinkpomelo » Thu Dec 04, 2008 12:29 am

This may seem rather frivolous and silly, but I was wondering if maybe someday, we would have clear labels on the bottoms of the jars, instead of opaque white labels on the caps? I was thinking if it would be possible to simply put the white labels on the bottom, but then it obscured the powders and I couldn't see the colors.

Its just a thing for me because I took a leaf out of another SN fan and put magnets on the caps and stuck them to a standing tin sheet. This means the magnets cover the name of the product.

Of course I know that everyone has managed so far, without a need for clear labels on the bottoms :) So I welcome any suggestions that will not require Karen to turn her whole production upside down?

How about grabbing a fine-nibbed permanent marker (I like silver) and writing on the bottoms? =)

lol, i want clear labels on the bottom too because i stick mine to a marker board bottoms/colors out. i always end up covering the label with a magnet. I can usually figure out the color but if it's one i haven't worn in awhile it can be tough

I do the opposite, Sam. On my huge markerboard, lol, the magnets are on bottoms of SN jars, & the labels face me. I'm so invested that I know what colors look like. *Have* unfortunately discovered that the huge pack of magnets from your ebay supplier need reinforcing w/glue, depending upon the jar itself. I've had jars go missing, sigh, & someday (yeah, right) furniture will get moved & I'll happen upon hidden hockeypuck jars.

They're usually ok. The problem with sticking them to the bottoms of jars is there's less surface area for them to stick to because of that little ring on the bottom of the jar- the magnet isn't quite small enough to fit inside that ring. With completely clear jars, i used to stick magnets on the bottoms until i figured out that they popped off too easy from the bottom. they're also not so great stuck to plastic labels because eventually the label peels itself off the jar- probably something to do with gravity and the weight of the jar. I haven't had that problem with SN's paper labels- yet anyway- the SN ones stay put. When I get other brands with plastic labels on top, I peel them off and stick them to the magnet (it still hangs and then i can read the label when i pull it off the wall). Most of my transferred samples are done that way too (i peel the label off the baggy and stick it to the magnet). Trial and error but yes I've noticed a trend of which factors are less-magnet-friendly than others.

I very much prefer the labels on the tops of the jars. What I'd like to see is clear lids. If there were clear lids, I'd be fine with the labels on the bottoms. I like to store my jars with the lids up, and I like to be able to tell what is in the jar just by looking at the lid. labels OR clear lids would work for me.

Hear hear! I second the clear lid idea! I've been transferring all my e/s into jars with clear lids b/c the black lids drive me nuts in the morning... :-D
