How Do I find My Foundation Shade&Products?

I just found SN but when looking at the website I am completely confused on what I need to order to get started... There are all sorts of kits and individual things (colors) to order and different sizes.
I need to find my match first. From reading the 3 categories, I would be a warm gold, but how do I know if that's *all* I am? I am medium completed now, and when I wore BE I would wear 2.3 plus a tiny bit of 5.2 depending on tan I was at the time.
Can someone help me get started? I don't know what I even need!
Thanks much!
Star

I’m sure Jen can help you when she comes online, she is the SN color expert. I would order the 5 base color kit and a sample of one of the ivory bases, depending on what coverage you prefer. That way you have all of them in case you need them.

Hello Starlight!
You do have a few options in sampling. If you are looking for
light coverage try our introductory kit. It has 4 color bases, our Original Ivory base, a scoop, and a jar for mixing.
Perfect Harmony Foundation Sample Kit:

If you are looking for
medium or
heavy coverage, you will need to order the Ivory base and color base samples seperately. There is an all color base pack, like mgmsrk mentioned. Also, to get a jar and scoop for mixing, make sure you order a sample kit in the Ivory bases. Sample *only* Ivory base does not include a jar or scoop.
The foundation sample page:

I do think you will be a Warm Gold.

this is just a suggestion, but i think it would really be helpful to new customers looking for foundation to change the page that pops up when you click on "foundation" from the home page--
i think the easiest thing to do would be to add all of the foundation choices from the "samples" page to the main foundation page. you can keep them under the samples link too, but i really think all the choices you have for foundation should be all in the same place. so many people are confused and i've seen jen have to answer this same question many times on all the various MMU forums, lol! if they were all there it might make it better (hopefully?) i think it may be confusing because the perfect harmony foundation sample kit is on the main foundation page with all the refills but none of the other sample kits or single samples are. also i noticed that the perfect harmony kit doesn't contain the deep ebony base--maybe there should just be a little note on that product page pointing this out for newer shoppers and ladies with darker skin.
does that make sense? it sounds confusing but i hope it's understandable. the system for picking foundation also seems daunting but really isn't and i think doing the above would really help

It makes perfect sense. We are always trying to make this process easier. I will wrap my brain around it this week.......and do some tweaking. I had been thinking of something on the same lines. Definitely some great suggestions! Thank you, packgal!

Thanks for your help, Jen!
I do agree that it would make sense to have a better system/webpage for newbies trying to order foundation for the first time!

What a great idea! In my perfect world, this is what I'd like to see for newbies:
Pictures of real people NOT made up to represent each of the foundation color categories. With each, would be the additional information about depth of color (porcelain to very dark), "typical" hair color, skin quality, easily burns, always tans, eye color, etc. That should lead the newbie to the best overall shade choice. Then you could add another step for "camouflage" - redness, acne, sallow, whatever - such as adding a very small amount of another foundation shade to correct problems. I started with ebony, but now find that a small amount of peach (2 ebony to <1 peach to 7-8 base) is just right. A step further could include recommended blush, bronzer, glow, perfecting powder, lippies, etc. When I started with mmu, I purchased from Signature Minerals and found their descriptions to match perfectly, especially with the foundation. I have since found all of this information for SN by spending hours on the site and cruising the forum daily. It's been great fun for me, but for a newbie the mixing part is intimidating enough without having to do research and ask a lot of questions. I looked at SN for several months before I made a purchase, then took 2 months to get my courage up to mix it!!! (Yes, I'm a former mmu chicken!) I believe that people would purchase more readily if it were easier to figure out the first time on the site. Maybe a trial "kit" for various skin colors/types with foundation, PP, blush, 2 es and a lippie? Once they try SN, they'll be hooked!!

Thanks, Mikie, I guess I have!

I just needed to give myself permission to have fun with it, and remember that any of my "what were you thinking?!" attempts can be washed off and started over. (I usually save those "creative" opportunities for Saturdays when I'm not in a hurry to be somewhere. Actually tried Poly with Opal on Saturday - my husband was not thrilled, but I thought it was quite interesting. He said, "As long as you don't wear it to church!")
As a webmaster for a professional organization and a VERY frequent internet shopper, I appreciate a website that's easy to work with, especially for the uninitiated. Karen is a remarkable business woman who turns her customers into friends and advisors - even including lil ole' me! A big thanks to you, Karen, Jen and all the gals for welcoming me to such a fun group! MMU and cats - would'a thunk it?! Lauren

Cats?! As in kitty cats?
I love cats if that's what you were talking about!
As far as the suggestions, ITA with Lauren, her suggestions would be great for newbies, at least having the foundation info she suggested in one part and maybe the other colors in another.
The "what do I need to order" to try this foundation and "what color" (although that seems fairly easy for me) are the 2 biggest deterrents I and others I have spoke to had with ordering this foundation.
I'm excited, I just hope I don't get cold feet about mixing when my order comes! LOL
I figure I mix other brands to get my true color so why not try with this?
