Dior Lip Glow

Morning ladies,

I have never been a big fan of the 'designer' make up brands (Dior, YSL etc), but I saw this Dior product used in a YouTube tutorial the other day.

Looks like it's just a pale pink gloss in the bullet but it supposedly 'enhances' your lip colour - it does sound a bit like it's one of those wacky 'mood change' glosses (like Too Faced Mood Swings or the Barry M green one, or any of those type of products you used to be able to buy years ago :? ) which I never liked but gives the make up artist in the video a beautiful & very natural looking sheen on her lips.

I haven't tried this in person as yet (so it could turn out to be completely rubbish  ) but looks fantastic here:

she mentions the product first at 08:17 (and if you've never watched any of her & her sister's tutorials they are AMAZING; definitely worth a look - both makeup artists based in the UK).

People do 'how to apply makeup' tutorials on You Tube?? I don't know if that's weird or genius!

Love the look of that Dior lip thingy when she applies it. It goes from sheer to sensational. It looks like it adds all the beauty of a wet gloss in the practicality of a regular lipstick format, but sheer so that it's universally suitable and the colour is intimately yours. Very flattering and it seems like the perfect 'fix' for what to do with lips when you, ahem, do rather a bold eye colour.

Oh, I like that! I have Avon's Glossblossom (pretty much the inexpensive version of Smashbox's O-gloss). It starts sheer and turns into a pretty pink, supposedly your own best pink. I like it, and I guess it's similar idea to the Dior, but sometimes the pink is just not the right color for the rest of the face. I'd love have something that enhances the natural color instead of changing it even a bit. I like my own lip color (a curse and a blessing with all that pigment). Is it possible to make something like this without all the crazy chemicals?

YES search xsparkage and petrilude for some fantastic bold eyes. They are my favorites!

Ladies,

panic over........I stopped by my local Dior counter this weekend and bought their last Lip Glow - I just couldn't resist. The sales woman said that it's been featured in this month's latest editions of Harpers & Queens, Vogue, Tatler, & is apparently THE fastest selling lip product in the beauty industry EVER (where on earth do they get that sort of information from?!).

This is how it's described on the box:

A customised lip balm that lastingly enhances & embellishes the natural colour of the lips.
A customised colour result: as the intuitive colour reacts directly with the unique chemistry of the lips, it looks different on every skin tone. Lips are naturally fresh & radiant.
Complete lip care action: the balm formula is moisturising, smoothing & protective (spf10)
An extremely long lasting result: by blending seamlessly with the lips, the makeup result stays intact all day.

Sounds great, eh?! I was envisaging this beautiful long lasting glossy, natural lip colour (just what it says on the tin); looks beautiful in the tube (a pale, washed out baby pink) but ends up an almost fuschia shade on me after a minute or two :? . It cost £18 (which is ridiculous) and it's actually awful  - it IS another of those stupid gimmicky colour changing products but in much more flamboyant & 'grown up' packaging.

I stupidly bought it without even trying it (although admittedly after that description & how it appeared I didn't think I needed to, and they conveniently didn't have a tester out).

The texture IS lovely (not sure if it's anything special or if all Dior products feel the same way) but I would definitely encourage anyone thinking of buying this to try it first. The moral of the story is don't blow the budget on some beauty counter thing full of yucky chemicals when you could have a trolley full of SN instead.

Aw fiddlesticks! I thought it sounded like this super-adaptable sheer lippy that gives all the texture and luster of a good gloss but without the pigment colour so that your own lip colour shines through - and what could be more natural! Instead, it sounds like a copy of the Smashbox O-Glow lip thing which itself is a copy of a copy that probably goes back to those infamous green lipsticks of the early 80s. Drat, I'll pass then. Hope you can get an exchange, Kitten. :(
