Hi everyone. I was wondering how long is the usual shelf life of the lippies. I pulled out Toffee, which I haven't used in a while and it hand a strong rancid odor. I discarded the lippie but was a little sad since it was a newer lippie I hadn't had time to really use. I know some of the first lippies I bought since discovering SN, like Jaybird and Birthday Suit, are fine. But I do use those weekly. I wonder if that makes a difference?

Hmm, strange. Just today, I'm using Damsel which is one of the first ones I bought, almost a year ago, and it smells and feels fine/nice. However, I did get a bit of a smell from others, can't remember though which. I would suggest maybe wiping off the sides and the top of the bar before putting the lid back on before putting it away for the night? That would help reduce any bacteria that may get stuck on it. This comment is not based on any science, for all I know there is nothing in the lippie that could be affected by bacteria from our lips/mouth or the air.

Ah .. regarding lippies. I wonder if anyone here is like me.. keep a few lippies in the car? .. The weather is getting warmer. I wonder if they will melt if the car is parked under the sun?

You may get lucky and have a lippie survive, but I think you're tempting fate there. Could you try keeping a few in one of the pockets of your handbag instead?

Just transferred a handful into my handbag..

It should be about a year on them. The Toffee has actual copper powder in it- I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. Weird.

Lion- they're made to melt at around 98 degrees...so it's good that you moved them into your purse. If you forget and do leave them in the car- just take them out, set them upright, and they should reform.

That's good advice. I do that as part of my lipstick application routine. One second to wipe, and the next time I open it up, it looks clean and fresh -- especially if I'm opening it to show a friend (and potential SN convert)
