Hi Jen!
I'm new to Silk Naturals. I've got my cart full and ready to order! I was just hoping you could help me with my foundation recipe
Maybe I need to order additional items like a color booster or something else you may recommend.

If it helps, I was matched as C4/NC37-40 in the MAC shade system (It varies among each Mac Artist. lol)...I gave up on Mac foundations altogether. lol I'm currently an Everyday Minerals user. I was using Olive Medium in Intensive. Over time, I noticed an obvious green cast and hoped to try another shade. After sending in photos, I was told to try Medium Tan for a better match. I didn't order because I'm intrigued by the "mix your own foundation" concept with Silk Naturals
I do tan easily and my skin becomes a very deep tan color in the summer months.
I'm also interested in the Oil Control Primer and Blur powders. Considering my skin tone, should I order the tinted or untinted version? Also, which concealer should I try? I assumed medium would suit me best. Thank you so much in advance!

Jenlynn418,
I think Warm Gold is your base. It has slight olive, golden, and warmth. I kind of understand why some of the MAC MUAs leaned cool at times....you do have some pink, but you are definitely warm toned. You will need it in about a 1 scoop color to 3 or so white....maybe more. Yes, Medium Concealer and the tinted versions of the powders are probably best. The untinted ones are sheer, but to avoid ashiness, the tinted ones will be better for you.
I will answer some of the other things in you other thread!

Yeah, I had 2 Mac Artists help me one time and they were arguing over what shade I am and what undertones I have. lol I do see a little pink too. It's weird, I prefer neutral/browns when it comes to my makeup, but I love cool/jewel tone clothing and silver jewelry. I never wear gold. Ever since I was told I'm warm, I wondered if silver isn't actually flattering on me at all. Perhaps since I do have a little pink undertone, then it still works? lol
Anyways, thank you very much for helping me with the recipe!
For heavier coverage (yet not as thick and "mask like" as the heaviest coverage), can I mix the medium and heavy ivory bases together? I saw the heavy coverage one was described as a base best used for spot concealing, but I have a lot of acne scarring and hyperpigmentation.
Also, do you normally apply the concealer over or under the mineral foundation?
Re: Need Foundation Help? Please post here.......
As for the coloring, I just think you are kind of on the bubble like me. I can usually pull off warm and cool tones as long as they don't fall into the extremes of the color range. I also prefer silver jewery and wear jewel tones over pastels any day..all indicators of cool toned coloring, but am slightly warm/olive. I think our tones are similar.Jenlynn418 wrote: Hi Jen!

I would experiment with the concealer both over and under. I usually go under for concealing, but others go over. It is a matter of preference and what works best for you, really.
Pretty much any of the powders are mixable. Some even mix their finisher right into the foundation mix. Start with the coverage levels seperate and then go from there. It is only hard to undo a mix!

Ok, I'll try the concealer both ways and see what works. And it'll be fun experimenting with the different foundations and powders. Thank you so much!

Re: Need Foundation Help? Please post here.......
Hello! I apologize for the leeeengthy message this is turning out to be. Anywho: I'm about to order a sample foundation set for the first time, and I was wondering if I could have some foundation recipe advice (since I'm a total noob). Info about my coloring: I'm not sure if I'm cool or warm... My veins are green and blue/purple, I wear much more silver jewelry than gold and love to dress in blues and purples, but I'm told I also do very well in darker browns. My hair is light/medium brown, and my eyes are hazel erring on the side of green. I can tan, but I burn much more easily. I currently use Milani Minerals compact makeup in Nude Buff - it is the teensiest bit too light and yellowish/greenish, but it is quite a good match otherwise. I also use Wet n'Wild UltimateSheer tinted moisturizer in Natural - on my jaw it is much too dirty beige/grayish, but it's not so bad after blending. I have problem skin, so I might have in the past been matching my foundation to the pink/red irritation, because the skin on my chest and neck is much fairer and cooler than my face (I think...). For this reason I'm also considering buying a sample of the medium coverage ivory, I'm fairly certain I'd need it!
I've attached some pictures: The first is no makeup with flash in relatively poor indoor artificial light (as you can see from the background of the picture). The second is a sort of "after" (with makeup) in natural shade. The third is in natural light. I can't recall if I there was makeup on my face or not, but hopefully the chest and neck can help give you an idea of my tone.

Re: Need Foundation Help? Please post here.......
Hi - I have just ordered a Deluxe Sample Kit and could really use some advice on: (a) what formula to start with; (b) how to get the makeup to stay put without melting or fading. I am currently wearing Golden Light in Everyday Minerals which is a pretty decent match, but seems to turn somewhat pink along my jawline as the day wear on - and melts/fades off my t-zone. I am historically a liquid foundation user (Tarte Recreate Warm Bisque 06 - which has always been pink on me but somewhat close in a "natural" line), but with the summer coming, I wanted to find a mineral makeup that stays put and doesn't break me out. Also, I have some raised/flat red/brown acne scars on my cheeks and chin, and the EDM foundation really doesn't cover those very well.
I have also tried some of the Alima Pure range, but all of the colors I tried look very ashy and washed out on me. Maybe I am more pink than I thought?
I have attached a couple of pictures for further reference. Any pointers you can offer would be great. Thanks!

I am thinking you are slightly on the cool side. I would try Ebony at a 1 scoop color to 7 or 8 white for starters. If it is too flat, we can tweak it from there. Also, since you mention pink and red irritation, Olive might be another good bet. You will probably run a 1 Olive:about 14 White.CraZkCfish wrote:Hello! I think you do show a little warmth in your tone. I think our Warm Gold is a good place to start at a 1 scoop color to about 7 white. However, you mention foundation turning pink, so I would also try Buttery Gold in about the same ratio. Usually, I recommend a heavier coverage formula for concealer. It can be mixed to be slightly lighter than the foundation (which oddly works out to about the same ratio because of the more opaque coverage.)lilbit88 wrote:Hi - I have just ordered a Deluxe Sample Kit and could really use some advice on: (a) what formula to start with; (b) how to get the makeup to stay put without melting or fading. For getting your foundation to last, I recommend trying our Oil Control Primer or Blur Powder to see if they help with the oil. From your description, it does sound like oil is the culprit. Also, you want to make sure your skin is well hydrated (generally means it needs something more than just a moisturizer, like a serum or mist). Our skin tends to overproduce oil when it is dry. Skin may adjust slightly drier when going from liquid to powder foundation and the skincare might need a slight adjustment to compensate.
