pink lippie

Post by Mairi » Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:41 pm

I'm trying to find a pink lippie that works for me. I have operative, heirloom and a sample of sweet pea. None of them look good on me.

I was looking at breathless, pout and soft. Can anyone explain to me how these differ from each other?
I generally wear plums (black dahlia and bobbi) or nudes (birthday suit or jaybird). Bobbi is pretty close to mlbb but I'd like to find a lighter pink with brown undertones that doesn't wash me out.

Any advice would be appreciated!

pout and soft are seriously gorgeous pink lippies, but neither of them has brown undertones. pout is shimmery, while soft is sheer with no shimmer. because of it's sheerness i think soft suits almost everyone.

for light pink with brown undertones, you could try cultured, st. tropez or of course breathless. i love all 3 of them. summer fling could also work. although it doesn't really have brown undertones, it's a very flattering pink.

Thanks! I think that cultured, breathless and st tropez look right. But how do I choose between them, if they are so similar? What are the differences? Would you be able to swatch them together for me?

sure, i'll swatch them for you :) upfront i can already tell you about the differences:

cultured is more of a nude with pink undertones, hardly any shimmer (not noticable on the lips).

breathless on me comes out like a plummy pink with barely noticable brown/nude undertones. what sets it apart from other lippies is the satiny shine.

st. tropez is summer in a tube :D it seems to be a nude base with pink shimmers, but it is soooo flattering, i just love it.

swatches will follow asap!!

Wow, bellatete, thank you so, so much! I had wondered about maiden too, so I do appreciate that you added it in. They look so similar on the swatches that I am staring and staring, trying to tell the difference. Your descriptions really help too. I'm kind of leaning towards cultured, although they are all so pretty so maybe it doesn't matter which one I get.
I have hey baby which is a tad too brown, so I'm hoping cultured has more pink than that.
If not then I think I'll try st tropez. But I've never tried the liquid glosses, generally not a fan of that sort of thing.

If you already have Bobbi, I would get Breathless or St. Tropez. Cultured looks very similar to Bobbi on me and I'm a Black Dahlia girl too.

Bloom is also a brownish nude pink, it's a little lighter than the above mentioned shades, so if atfer trying those you are finding you'd like something lighter check out Bloom.

Speaking of pink lippies, I also LOVE Reaction, but it's not what you are looking for at all as it is a slightly bright baby pink.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Oxana, you're wearing Reaction in that picture? You look absolutely gorgeous! It looks like a really pretty color. I think you are right that it probably wouldn't flatter me though. Perhaps if I was young and beautiful like you are, then I could try it...

I'd love to know what you are wearing on your eyes too.

Like Mairi, I stare at the swatches and find a lot of them look so similar to each other that it's really hard to decide. Thank-you for the swatches and the descriptions. They're very helpful. I like brown-pinks and some mauves, but I find that baby shimmery pinks don't work for me.

Unlike Mairi, Centerfold doesn't really work alone for me. The purple-brown undertone gives me a bit too much of a zombie effect, but it is excellent to tone down other lippies.

I have both Breathless and Soft. Soft is natural and alright for me but doesn't contribute all that much in colour. It's like a pink tinted moisturizing balm, easy to wear for a natural subtle look, but not exciting. It cools down the tone of my lips a bit, though when swatched on my arm looks a bit more warm than Breathless. Breathless looks like it would be darker on when I swatch it on my arm, but it's actually lighter than Soft when I wear it because of the shimmer (too much for my liking on this lighter colour). I've been wearing Breathless as "lip balm" around the house or for lightening a matte colour that is too intense for me, but I will not buy more.
