How do I mix a blend of SN that looks like Everyday Minerals Fairly Light Neutral. I stink at the mixing.
I wish SN would premix foundations. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, Kyblueeyes
Foundation Mixing question???

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
I think Fairly Light Neutral is some blend of Ebony and Warm Gold for the color base. 1 Ebony:a half? Warm Gold: 9 -11 Ivory. Early on I mixed my foundation in zip baggies, and that worked much better than mixing in a jar for me. I did initially mix small jars(with no sifters) for testing and then made bigger batches in baggies. I do occasionally tweak the color in the jar. Once I was sure I was hooked on this foundation, I invested in a kitchen blender to mix it. I currently mix foundation for my sister and MIL, too.

This is the one I bought, But I am sure there are more brands of the same out there. Mine was about $25 at a big discount chain. It may seem silly to have something like this dedicated to foundation, but it works perfectly for me. I do recommend a dust mask, too, from the hardware department, just to be safe.
By not selling premixed foundations, Karen can keep her inventory down. As a result she can have a greater variety of color products and ship very quickly. Also, when you mix your own, you have the ability to change the color slightly as you need. You are not stuck with a foundation that matches you only a few months out of the year.

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
I second Jen's comments about the flexibility of SN's foundations. Its kinda like Prescriptives' custom blends. Different people have different preferences. Personally, I'm a fan of being able to tweak my foundation. I did buy Everyday Minerals before and I could never quite find the right match, despite multiple orders of their "free" (shipping still comes up to quite a bit considering the SIngapore dollar is weaker than USD) samples. I do know some ladies who tweak their EM foundations, so even with pre-mixes, some people still like to custom blend.
I didn't buy a blender but I did get a little tobacco hand blender. And yes, it can get dusty, even with the basic "shake the jar" method. I still use the "shake the jar" method because I don't use enough to fill the blender sufficiently to ensure effective blending. I make small batches enough for a fortnight's use and then go again. I am so used to it, I just toss the scoops in and add whatever perfecting powders I want to play with, then shake while watching telly.

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
Thanks Jen,
I will try that and yes now that you mention it, It does keep the cost low and besides the fun is all in the colors that Karen comes up with and she's excellent at the color duping. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out and I wish all of you a very wonderful day.
Beautiful Mineral Blessings, Angela

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
I have a question which is somewhat related to the title:
How do u mix the foundation well?... I'm still experimenting and haven't got my skin tone colour down yet, but meanwhile I've noticed that mixing it in the little sifter jars isn't enough, as the ivory still comes out in small clumps when I try it on my face... and believe me, I've done some thorough shaking.
I've mixed up 4 batches now, but still no where near my skin tone...sigh...

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
While you are still looking for your shade, I think it best to keep mixing in little jars without sifters. If you mixed by any other method, you would waste a ton of product. Small zip baggies might work at this volume, but in my opinion there is not enough volume for it to mix well. Those you measure the powder into them, seal, and moosh them around in your hands.eekypooh wrote:I have a question which is somewhat related to the title:

I did give information in a previous post in this thread concerning larger batches.

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
thanks Jen! I did read your earlier post
its just that I thought there might be more ways of mixing the powders more thoroughly... I mix them without the sifters and they look ok, until I pick some up to dust on my skin, thats when I start noticing the slivers of unmixed ivory...
does using a (tiny) spatula help?

Re: Foundation Mixing question???
Any and all ways of mixing will only help. There is also some mixing that is done with your brush as you load it. I am usually just a crazy shaker of the small jars.
