SN vs EDM glosses

Post by BlowFarAway » Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:23 pm

Can someone post a comparison picture who owns both? I want to see the size difference in the tubes, and google isn't helping. TIA!

I thought the SN ones were going to be much bigger, but the description on the coconut one is .15oz and "twice as big" as the regular one. EDM's are .15oz and are pretty small imo.

Hi BFA, nice to see you here. The Coconut one is about the same size as the EDM tube. The regular SN gloss tube is about the same size as Burt's Bees tube, maybe half the volume of that of the coconut / EDM tubes. Don't let the quantity fool you though, the quality is vastly different.

I've tried EDM glosses through different formulas right back to the legendary cherry fizz (hehe wonder where they got the name, Jen? ;) ) and hand on heart, I can tell you that the quality, texture, wear, comfort and colour choice of the SN range is infinitely better. They simply do not compare. I'm not saying that for bias or brand loyalty, its worth trying something just to see. There are lots of swatches on Jen's swatch thread so that'll help with colour choice. Pout, Precious, Gold Blush and the nude colour Birthday Suit are pretty safe places to start. Have fun.

Are you familiar with the colored Burt's Bees tubes or colored Say Yes to Carrots? They are the same size as our slimline tubes. It is a narrow chapstic tube. Another one that you can buy in US stores (not sure about Canada) is the Softlips brand.

The Coconut Lip Balm is the same size as EDM, as far as I know, and a standard chapstick size. It still takes quite a while to use one of the slimline tubes up. I have had experience with other natural lip products with larger packaging going bad well before I have had a chance to use them up.

Thank you for the fast responses! Yes I am familiar with the SoftLips (they have them at our checkout tills haha) but not with the other two.

I ordered Thursday and got:

1 x Cherry Crush- cherry red shimmer
1 x Summer Fling- Warmish Rosey Pink
1 x Fig Leaf- Nude Plum Matte Solid Gloss
1 x Clear Devil's Food Cake Black Label Lippie
1 x Clear Peppermint Black Label Lippie
1 x Breathless- pink satin shimmer organic lip gloss
1 x Brown Sugar & Vanilla Lip Scrub

The swatches helped a LOT, I have to be careful with warmer and browner glosses. I already have a cart going for my next order, oh dear. I was even thinking of getting a foundation sample kit (guilt guilt).

Breathless is a great choice. I think it would suit your colouring nicely and it's not too opaque / not too sheer. A good one to start with. The uncoloured Black Label lip glosses (like ultra moisturising balms) are addiction forming. DFC smells a bit nutty and tastes a little strong but I've gotten through a tube of it in record time as the weather worsens and my lips need help. I'm not a fan of any liquid glosses for the texture - full stop - so I haven't tried Karen's yet. I can't imagine wandering away from the gloss sticks though.

If you're thinking of trying the foundation, just prepare yourself, that's all I'm saying. If you think the difference in lippy quality will impress you, with the foundation you've got an eye-opener coming hehe.

Yeah in the top 6 glosses thread, Breathless was in every single post ! I have been telling everyone how I have cake flavoured lip balm on the way to me hehe.

When I do try the foundation I'm going to come crawling in here for advice, I really fail at being Mad Scientist for foundation. Shadows, no problem.

Nice to see you here, BFA! I think you'll be really happy with the SN glosses, the quality is just top-notch all around. Tons of color choices, great formulas, and awesome color payoff :)

The liquid wand lippies are mostly gorgeous. I have and love Rouge (not there right now), Cherry Crush, Ice Princess, special love for Summer Fling, Copper Rose, and Vintage (which I think is similar to Figleaf).

Even though I'm cool-toned, I can wear copper - a lot of people can. Which may be why Copper Rose is such a big favourite.

Tender is another really nice pinky-brown that seems to work for both warm and cool skintones. Can't do SkinnyDip terribly well, but Tender is great.

Hi BFA from the emfamily site. I have ordered only one of the organic vegan lippies here, called crimson, bright red, and I love it! The quality really is much better than the EDM lippies. I tried sooo hard to get an EDM one I liked, but I was just not happy with how they looked, the feel, turning gritty, etc. I am absolutely delighted with this SN lippie, so much so that I am ordering a ton of them in my next order!
As for the foundation, I am much happier with the SN foundation than the EDM ones. I had a hard time getting a good colour match with EDM, in the end I went with buff perfect, and I think the colour was exact but it still made my pores look larger, settled into my little lines, and I always felt it made my skin look and feel more dry. With SN, the very first batch I did of two different base colours (one with olive, and one with warm gold) seemed already to be a good match! It was so simple and for the first time I can actually say what people have always said about mineral foundation (but I have never experienced till now) but it doesn’t look like I am wearing anything!!! Give it a go!
I still visit the EDM forum, I like how active it is, and I am getting a large group order for the holiday colours…but I am over all much happier with what I have tried in SN, even the eye colours are amazing!!

Was EDM Buff Perfect. Currently, 1:8 Original Ivory, Warm Gold. !!! Loving SN :)

HI canadienese! I've been having the same problem lately with EDM. Just this year my skin has turned from an oil slick to much drier, but I still need full coverage. My beloved intensive mix is now making me look speckly and flaky, much worse when I do my usual wet and pat. :(

For a nude should I get Precious, Centerfold or Divine? Centerfold looks the most "nude" of the three, but Divine looks like a nice, slightly pink version. And what about Precious? So many choices!
