Eco-friendly refills for almost all the products.
Many of us have have lots of empty jars - they should be used. I think it would be nice if we could buy e/s refills, blush refills and etc. Less packaging is the idea.
The next idea is having powder refills in paper baggies. Maybe wax paper paggies. Is it possible Karen? I really hope to hear your opinion.

Much to my regret there's still no answer(((

Ladies, do you think it is a bad idea? Why?
Maybe you have tried it already?
When my friend and I share loose powders we often use small paper envelopes. Paper is recyclable. It's decomposition period is much shorter then plastic and etc.
I'm really waiting for your replies. Thanks in advance.

I like the idea of refills, and I like the idea of paper baggies. I think most people are just hoping that Karen will chime with her point of view.

First of all, I am not Karen and this is just my opinion.
I like the idea of baggies. While the wax paper baggies are a better choice environmentally speaking, I don't think they are the best for shipping powders. They just don't stand up well to lots of handling. SN ships all over the world and postal systems don't exacly handle packages with gentleness. I would be afraid of getting powders all over the insides of packages when the wax paper baggies failed to do an adequate job of containing the powders. Mail packages that leak powders are simply not good from the security sense, either. Even though we know the powders are inert, the postal systems do not. A leaky package could cause a huge amount of problems for everyone involved. The jars and baggies seal better, but there are times when even the more reliable packaging fails.

Actually I think it's a good idea for some things, I just was trying to wrap my brain around how it would work! I bet they'd be great for swapping, I hate using lots of tiny plastic baggies for that since in general I try to ration how many plastic bags I use in my home, but I haven't been able to come up with a secure substitute yet.Die Marchen wrote:Much to my regret there's still no answer(((

For shipping, I don't know if there's a way to reliably seal them with a full size dose of product in it. Given the way some of my packages reached me when living abroad (i.e. beat up, ripped, water damaged) I can see how there would be problems doing it on a large scale. Though I guess one alternative would be to package all the little paper packets in one larger plastic bag. They'd be sealed in and the larger bag is easier to wash and reuse. Eh, I wish there were more biodegradable plastic baggie products out there!

I think it is a good idea, SN currently has some products that you can order baggie refills of, so for them to expand it to more products would be great. I think plastic baggies for now would probably be best though, as I can see the wax paper getting torn and making quite a mess. But perhaps in the future a good alternative can be found that is both environmentally friendly and durable.

I think plastic baggies is a great alternative to jars, for those who have enough of them to start with, when wax paper would not work the best since the packages are traveling so long distances and aren`t treated gently at all.
So if it hadn`t been for that, then it could be possible
But I liked your idea very much Die Marchen, it was a good one
Sometimes it takes a while to get answers, not because no one wants to answer, but sometimes there isn`t always a answer to give, or that we don`t always want to answer something we aren`t sure about, or we wonder about it ourselves and wait if the owner have some time to answer it for us. But she is super busy and doesn`t always have a lot of time to answer questions in the forum, although she pops in and does that too from time to time.

Re: Eco-friendly refills for almost all the products.
I love the idea of refills for everything- but at the moment the jars are actually more environmentally friendly than a plastic bag. The jars that we use are PET, and pretty much everyone accepts them for recycling- and they're handy so they're more likely to be re-used and stay out of the waste system entirely. With bags a lot of communities don't accept plastic bags for recycling, and they don't really hold up to reuse.
I've been looking around for more environmentally friendly packaging choices. The technology is changing pretty quickly. I just got back from a trade show last week and they're starting to roll out quite a few new natural/organic ingredients, and I think the packaging to go along with it is just around the corner. Right now our bamboo brushes are packaged in biodegradable corn plastic bags, and I'm hoping to find some durable bags for packaging.

Re: Eco-friendly refills for almost all the products.
Ladies)) I'm so pleased you are thinking this way)))
There are so many problems here in Russia, and never were a few, so most people don't even want to think about nature. They are so tired of the everyday life in our unfriendly surrounding that letting another problem in makes it irresistible. And people don't believe they can do anything. And they are often cheated. I live in Moscow, our problems are a bit different than in other cities and 2 the worst are: many ones come here to make money no matter how and ecology. And they are strongly connected((( Historical monuments are being demolished inspite of public opinion and new trade and business centres built, trees and parks are being destroyed for the same reasons.
Almost nothing is recycled.
But there is another side. There are people who still try to do something. (Not the ones we can see in local or foreign news. I'm sick of most ones who are loved by European and American media. It is just the way they make their business. They say that all the critics from Russia is the result of their political point of view. In most cases it is not.)
I strongly believe that taking care of everything is the only way.
In Russian we have an idiom "to vote by ruble". It means that when you pay for smth you support it's provider and if you have a choice - you should think whom to support. Now I vote for Karen's SN. I can't even say what I like most - beautiful products or that the provider TAKES CARE. I love Karen writing it))) It makes a lot of sense!)))
