Pairing up eyeshadows

Post by emmy2410 » Mon Jul 26, 2010 9:52 am

Hmmm I am not sure if this is the right place I shld bring this topic about, if it is not I apologise. if this topic goes into another thread karen you may want to move it.
I am very poor with matching colour of eyeshadows, I go wrong most of the time as it doesnt match or compliments each colour.. Sometimes i get it right like. How do I match eyeshadows colour...examples like blue goes well with yellow and etc. Wat to wear at the crease, over the lid, brow area, tear duct and etc. Hope to hear from you gals.

I don't know that you're necessarily getting it "wrong" as most of Karen's shadows pair pretty well with each other.
As long as you're pairing different depths of color (one should be lighter than the other you're using), you should be okay. If you're picking colors that are all dark or all medium, they'll probably blend together and become kind of intense. Personally, I feel that the choice of a good light color is the base of any great eye.

Browns- browns will go well with most colors, but especially with creams, and other browns. i also love brown with peach.

Greens- I love green. I wear it with other greens, with golds/yellows, with browns, whites/creams. For pairing it with more daring looks, i prefer more of a teal and have paired a teal with a peach or purple more than once.

Blues & Purples- I don't wear most blues and purples very well, for me it works best if they're pastels. Both pair well with white/cream or pale pinks/peaches. And of course black makes a great liner.

SN offers a pretty good variety of eye color kits too: http://host.silknaturals.com/creb/index ... ath=162_32 the colors in each kit were designed to go together, so you can't go wrong. The larger kits (with 7-10 colors) are a bit more complicated, but again, generally designed to go together so you can pick 2-4 and they should still work. Note how all of the 4 color kits come with a very very light highlight color, a light base color, a medium crease color, and a dark liner color.

I like brown with creams, pinks, taupes, or greens. Brown also looks good with purple-based shades.

I like green with brown, taupe, and for more fun looks, with purple or yellow.

Yellow and reddish-based shades look nice together.

Hmm... I really think make-up matching is much more fool-proof than matching clothing. As long as you have a light highlighter, light/medium lid shade, and darker crease shade, or just two of the above, you can make pretty much any combination work in my opinion.

You could also check out the Face of the Day (FOTD) thread which is also on the General Makeup Talk board. That's where folks post pictures of makeup they do and I bet that would really help you out, just seeing the pictures.

yea i like brown, but im dark brown skinned so sometimes brown doesnt not show on my but i do love wearing them during those simple days. I love blue purples and greens will match them with all the tips given here. Like the idea of yellow and reddish base...good good.

thank you christine.

These are my favourite colour combos:

1) Green and Purple - Gorgeous! I do Trip inner and Romp outer, lightly and blend blend blend.

2) Pink and Earthy colours - Pink and Brown are like, made for each other. They can get married and have pretty babies together. I use LOL or Sandy and Brook, or Cabin Fever.

3) Green and Earthy colours - I use Trip/Fuse with Brook/Cabin Fever

4) Pinks and Purples - This is a happy, girly combination. I like Sandy for inner and Pretty or Fleur for outer.

I absolutely cannot do purples, and this is the only way I get purple to work on me. I can only use it on my outer eye, or foil Romp to wetline. I don't have a crease so 2 shades are all I use.

When I'm lazy, I just use Twister all over. It's my favourite SN e/s and I love it to bits.

p/s: Most of the shadows I've listed are GWPs... I stashed my other SN e/s away somewhere and I can't really find them at the moment, so I've just been using these few colours lately. Sigh.
