Let's Talk about Hair....

Post by karen » Thu Dec 30, 2010 4:40 pm

I hired a production assistant a few weeks ago when it became apparent that I just couldn't keep up with everything the way I used to. The idea is that she'll make the skin care that's already on the site, and it will free-up some of my time to make some new formulas.

For the most part- I think we have a fairly complete line- there are a few projects here and there that I need to tackle, but the next up is hair.

I've managed to tame mine for the most part- but what products would you like to see? What do you need?

I would love anything that is gluten free. I have celiac disease and you would be shocked (or maybe you wouldn't  ) how many personal care things have gluten in them. I'd be a customer for life if you started doing hair care that worked and didn't have gluten!

I would like a hair oil, maybe with argan or Morrocan oil?

I would like a shampoo that deep cleans an oily scalp. A dupe like Aveda's Rosemary Mint would be great. It is hard to find a good product for an oily scalp.

Another Celiac here bemoaning the use of gluten in beauty items. I just get so sick from the tiniest bit, I don't dare use anything that contains it, particularly anything in my hair or on my face that could wind up inadvertently in my mouth.

One thing I know very little about is hair products but I can give a rough description... I'd love something to soften and smooth the hair but without being a heavy, junk-filled silicone serum. I tried one of those once and it was amazing for a day and then my hair (and scalp) hated it. So limp and lifeless. I've got fine, flyaway blonde hair that tends to be dull and there's a lot of it so it needs daily washing and conditioning. I just want something to slick through it for a touch of shine and smoothness. No miracles, just MHBB. ;)

Maybe an occasional use serum for spot-on treatment to soothe itchy / sore / flakey irritated scalp? No idea what that would be made of but it's something I could really benefit from.

Gluten-free shouldn't be too much of an issue...wheat protein is really nice if you can use it, but Superwaz turned me onto rice protein, and some jojoba proteins that are really really lovely. I'm not quite sure what the best use is of them though. Another cleansing conditioner??? Hmmm....and how many gals do we have with really thick, or curly hair? I've been messing around with MSM and it seems to make my wavy hair super curly, which some days I really like.

Hair oils, and polishes sound good. I agree about the cones, it just makes my hair really limp and greasy looking, but a nice natural oil could work well. There are just so many possibilities that it's making my head spin- so this thread is really helping me to focus where I should put my energy.

Volumizer, please! I was going to try the flaxseed hair gel concoction, but I have learned by now that wanting and planning is not always as actually doing it (I have piles of raw cosmetic ingredients that will never get used). The cleansing conditioner does a great job cleaning and softening, but that also means no body unless I rough it up with the chemical stuff, which then can turn my hair into a dry mess with frizz, and have to start over.

The only product I've had fairly good luck with is Redken's Velvet Gelatine 07: leaves my hair relatively smooth (doesn't dry out) with a bit of body (not really voluminous), ie not totally flat. The problem is that it's pricy and it's laden with bad stuff. I can send you the ingredient list if you want.

Another coveted item would be a dry shampoo that works on dark hair too. I have yet to try the perfecting powder for this, but I thought I'd put it out there :) What I need from one would be soaking up the surface oils and perhaps provide a bit of texture at the same time, and not to hard to get it out of dark hair. I really like what T3 dark does for me, just again, the same issue as above.

Thanks for asking :)

I would love a shampoo that makes my wavy hair curlier and less frizzy. Karen, you mentioned msm, what is it?
If it is possible I would need it to be nut and shea butter free. I know that it is hard to please everyone, thanks for getting our imput. :D
