Rescue Lotion
Ok, I know we're not SUPPOSED to get burned (and I wore sunblock, I swear!) but I just got back from Jamaica and ooooo do i feel those equatorial rays. I didn't burn my face (which was sunblocked and mmu cream sticked) or my arms, but I completely FRIED the rest of my body. I came home and put on a (rather old jar of) moisture magic topped with the waxier burt's bees milk and honey lotion to hold moisture in. Would love (just for the summer months) something with aloe and calendula with a lot of hydration (though not necessarily heavy), for those times when our best intentions go awry. Sometimes, summer skin needs extra TLC

Re: Rescue Lotion
The green tea and aloe serum is very soothing. My teenage son burned his hand (mild - more like a sunburn) at work. I keep skin care in the fridge. He used the GT & aloe and said he felt much better.
If your skin felt parched; you can always add a bland moisturizer over it.

Agreed. I decided to mow the lawn a few weeks ago and had my "duh" moment. . . I literally had a red neck. Not so funny when you live in the South. . . !!! The Green Tea & Aloe serum did help very much, and I layered an Aloe body butter from The Body Shop. I'd love for SN to have a nice, natural aloe-based lotion for these moments.Xarata wrote:Ok, I know we're not SUPPOSED to get burned (and I wore sunblock, I swear!) but I just got back from Jamaica and ooooo do i feel those equatorial rays. Re: Rescue Lotion
Why don't we have this? Lavender toner might work if you have some already...lavender is really great for burns.
Do you want a lotion, spray or gel? I had a spray for home use that's calendula and aloe- just a quickie knock together thing, and it works well for anything like that, but a gel is easier to apply.

Oohhh . . . choices! First thought is that a lotion or gel would be wonderful, but I can foresee spray being awesome for burns because you wouldn't have to touch the skin and irritate it more. I'd be happy with any formulation, really!

Re: Rescue Lotion
i'd undoubtedly use any formulation. I never feel like sprays "sink" in enough though. I do have some lavender toner- will try that.
I went to work today and everyone was pretty down because it was the funeral day for a coworker. To make them laugh, I flipped up the back of my shirt where they could see my tan/burn lines (for those that didn't know, i'm an interesting shade of super super pale olive in the winter, which means i can tan but this abrupt burn means my tanlines are basically albino vs pocahontas). My face and arms are tan, but the only part of my torso/legs that isn't deep lobster red is where my bikini was. It did make people laugh.

Re: Rescue Lotion
I would love something for sunburns. I'm very pale and burn very easily. Its inevitable that a few times each summer I end up with a bad sunburn from being too busy trying to keep track of my son playing outside to remember to reapply sunscreen.
I'd prefer a gel or spray, they seem to sink in and work better than lotions for me. A spray seems like it would be handy for burns so you don't have to touch the skin as much.

Re: Rescue Lotion
So I have kind of a preliminary formula that is a gel with:
Aloe- oomphed up with a little bit of extra 200x aloe powder, so it's more concentrated than aloe juice
MSM- softens skin, helps healing, and it's really great on sore muscles, so it's a dual purpose rescue gel. It's not pregnancy safe...but every time I've had a sunburn I was outside doing something that eventually made me achy, so I thought it would be a nice touch.
Calendula extract- cause it's awesome
Helichrysum- great for any inflammation, and bruising, and it's an anti-oxidant
Panthenol- hydration
Green Tea extract- more polyphenols
sea buckthorn oil- just a smidge because it's bright orange. The Soviets used it on their cosmonauts to help with solar radiation.
Also on the table for this product:
Oatmeal extract,
Arnica infused olive oil (very expensive, and I never felt like it delivered that much lasting pain relief)
We could do lavender, or chamomile floral waters in it too, but I think simple is best for something like this.
Right now it doesn't have any oil in it. I'm thinking hemp because it has some barrier restoring properties, and it's the least likely to cause acne.
Does that sound OK?
Also- I want to do a catchy name, and there's one on the tip of my tongue, and it's killing me that I can't come up with something good.

Re: Rescue Lotion
I love the idea of hemp oil, it's so skin friendly. I personally love lavender, but don't know how universally popular it is

Re: Rescue Lotion
That sounds awesome! I'm so accident-prone I'd probably bathe in it.
I think we'll need a sample size, a one or two ounce size, and a larger size for families, especially since summer is coming! Speaking of, would it work on mosquitoes?
Names - I like Bad Girl Balm and Tough Stuff like Sam said. Maybe something manly-sounding for the guys, though - how about Battle Wounds Potion? I love that!
We can skip the arnica if you don't think it's necessary. The MSM is probably enough. Would the addition of the hemp oil help keep the ingredients in the skin and seal them in?
